DOMO

My Role
Principal SE / Manager
Timeline
April 2011 - Current

In the beginning.

I joined Domo in April 2011, back when it was known as Corda, a data dashboard company. Through connections I made at Utah JS meetups, I learned that Josh James, after selling Omniture to Adobe, had acquired Corda with the vision to revolutionize the business intelligence market.

This inspired me to apply, and after several interviews, I became one of the original team members, hired as Webmaster. As part of the rebranding effort to Domo, we honored Corda’s legacy with a symbolic "funeral," marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

To the moon...?

During my tenure, I witnessed the company grow, raising $200M at a $2B valuation, and had the privilege of participating in our IPO, even ringing the opening bell on Wall Street—a career highlight.

My roles

Over nearly 14 years, I contributed to numerous impactful projects across product prototyping, branding, marketing, sales, freemium services, the appstore, developer portal, training, and community initiatives. My role evolved from Webmaster to Senior Web Developer, Senior Manager of Development, and finally Principal Software Engineer/Manager, as I became the go-to resource for all web-related needs. My expertise spanned front-end and back-end development, DevOps, database management, internationalization strategies, performance optimization, SEO, security, and compliance.

Throughout my career at Domo, I leveraged a diverse range of technologies to deliver impactful solutions and drive innovation. These included PHP, TypeScript, Laravel, Vue.js, Inertia.js, Docker, Kubernetes, Vagrant, Nginx, MySQL, Tailwind, Node.js, and many others.

Among the projects I’m most proud of are:

  • Developing our freemium onboarding process and API, enabling partners to create Domo instances.
  • Building "Footprint," a library for user interaction tracking, lead scoring, attribution, and personalization.
  • Launching our public-facing appstore, which showcased Domo apps, empowered users to install them, and served as a lead pipeline for new customers.
  • A personal favorite was creating a fun internal app to celebrate sales wins, complete with train horns, lights, music, and animated TV presentations. It embodied the culture of innovation and celebration at Domo.
Throughout my career at Domo, I received numerous awards and recognition for my high performance, innovative contributions, and leadership. These honors validated my commitment to excellence and the impact of my work in driving the company’s success. The accolades also reflected the strong collaboration and shared goals I had with my talented colleagues.

Throughout my journey, I collaborated with incredible colleagues, building lifelong friendships while solving complex challenges together. Though I’ll always be a proud "Domosapien," I’m ready to embark on my next adventure.
